Description

This is my traditional-medium entry for :iconkneelingglory:'s 'Not For Sale' Human-Trafficking Awareness project: [link] (I might do another entry, in one of the other categories.
Entrants are supposed to choose a particular aspect of the many-faceted crime of human trafficking, and focus their artwork on it. I chose child trafficking.
It's difficult to find any definitive statistics as to exactly how many children a year are sold or forced into some form of slavery (due to secretiveness involved in such dealings), but most of the numbers I found were between 300,000 and 500,000 a year, and that's just for children being trafficked internationally. Who knows how many more are sold without ever leaving their own countries... :(
It's not only the children that suffer, though: there are thought to be nearly 30 million people trapped in some kind of slavery today. The Atlantic slave trade, which kidnapped and enslaved Africans between the 1500s and 1800s, brought less than 15 million to the New World, total.
